MADISON COUNTY - Dell McDonald has tackled two goals in 2016.

First, Dell founded his new company, Dell McDonald Construction Inc., as a general contractor for heavy equipment.

Secondly, he is preserving the tradition of professionalism that his father established with McDonald Brothers Construction more than a half-century ago with projects across North Alabama.

"I've started Dell McDonald Construction Inc. because of the hard work that my dad, S.O. McDonald, did years ago. Back in 1964, Dad started with one machine," Dell said.

S.O. McDonald asked his brother Charles to work with him when Charles got out of the Navy. "They had 10 employees and up to 250 employees by the 9/11 attacks. Through that time, Dad kept the company productive and profitable," Dell said.
As a teenager, Dell started working in construction by manning a jackhammer or laying pipe in a ditch. "I love to be in the field. I've always been in the field, running equipment and being on the ground with my crews.” For the past 20 years Dell was the General Superintendent for McDonald Bros and head over safety along with many other day to day duties that go along with running a heavy construction company
As a third-generation contractor, Dell is launching his new, heavy equipment company to continue services for clients in site prep, utility and demolition work. "I'm reaching out to home builders who we've worked for in the past and recruiting new ones."

"We have a core of general contractors for whom we've worked. Plus, I'll meet new people. We have a niche for certain types of jobs," Dell said.

"We're dirt guys ... clearing and grubbing, stripping and hauling in topsoil and fill dirt, compacting," Dell said. "As we grow, we'll do demolition work and underground utility work for sewer, water and electric."

Dell's arsenal of earthmoving equipment will  include mini excavators, skid steer loaders,  bulldozers, excavators and compaction equipment.  Trucking will available for haul off, and the delivery of gravel, top soil and fill dirt.

Dell is a longtime member of Alabama Associated General Contractors. He has served as North Alabama president  two different  times and as a board member for 10-plus years and served as the 2016 Alabama state president.

Dell is married to Holly McDonald, who is a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty in Madison. Holly has specialized in residential sales for the past 12 years.

Dell and Holly's daughters, Sydney and Riley, attend Rainbow Elementary School and Discovery Middle in Madison and both cheer with ACE Cheer Company.

Dell's son Shelby is a salon owner in Birmingham. Dell's daughter Courtney and husband Jason, of Athens, recently became parents of daughter Kyle Rae.
